19 Dec (Sun): Birdwatching at Choa Chu Kang Cemeteries

For Nature Society (Singapore) members only

Alan OwYong leads this session. Cemeteries provide excellent birding in urban areas as they are relatively undisturbed. The cemeteries at CCK border the Western Live Firing areas and Poyan. Open landscapes as well as scattered trees and scrubs make up most of the habitat here. We can check out the birdlife inside the Poyan restricted areas from the Muslim Cemetery. The Jerdon’s Baza, an accidental visitor has been seen here before, while the Common Buzzard was reported over at Tengah Airbase. Flocks of Oriental Pratincoles could fly by overhead. Please car pool.

Time: 7.30am. Meet at Path 2 and 13 of the Christian Cemetery and then drive around the fringes to the Indian, Chinese and Muslim Cemeteries, stopping at several vantage points to look out for raptors and passerine migrants.
